From the mailbag...
I am seeking two or three students to professionally videotape a presentation at the Orange County Convention Center on June 26 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. I will be presenting to an audience of approximately 500, and would like to have this program taped from several angles. I move around a lot when I speak, so a stationary camera doesn't do the trick.
This presentation will be combined with film shot at several others to obtain an end-product. I have not yet hired anyone for this editing, so if you are interested in that portion of the project, I would like to speak with you about that also.
If you are interested in pursuing these opportunities, please give me a call at the number provided below, or drop me an email. Also, there may be a couple of other speakers who might be interested in your services to make this effort more worth your while.
Thanks!

Andrew Gay Needs A Production Coordinator
Hi, this is Andrew Kenneth Gay. You may know me from such films as "Love is Deaf" and "Melissa With A Heart Around It" (director) or the "Dastoli Kissie Movie" on YouTube (guest star). This summer I'll be Line Producing Erin Kitzinger's thesis feature film, HOPE FOR A THORN, and I need a Production Coordinator who's dedicated, on task, three steps ahead of me, and a good communicator.
If you're not familiar with the role of the Production Coordinator, think of a personal assistant, office manager, receptionist, and secretary all rolled into one. The Coordinator's job is tough, believe me, but in terms of experience, you won't get a more marketable line on your resume in film school. Interested in producing? No one is going to hire you to produce a feature out of film school, but a lot of people might hire you as a Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator if you have a feature credit already. I speak from experience: if you look in the Orlando Film Book under Production Coordinator, you'll find my name, and I make anywhere from $300 to $400 per day coordinating freelance, and I turn down several jobs a month. How about I start forwarding those jobs to you?
I do not need someone with a lot of film knowledge or production experience. I don't care if you've read McKee's STORY or Katz's SHOT BY SHOT. What I need is someone whose attention to detail would astonish Sherlock Holmes. I need someone who's prepared to work full time hours for no pay (independent study or internship credit is available), who can organize like hell, who loves to live on the phone, sends a mean email, and can learn to read my mind by July. I'll hold your hand a little at the beginning and teach you everything you need to know. This is film education in the deep end. Chances are, if you're not fired within a month, I'll be begging you to Line Produce my own feature film in 2008.
If you're interested in this potentially career-changing opportunity, send your resume to film@candlefishpictures.com with "production coordinator for feature" as the subject line. We'll meet over coffee or something (my treat), and if I like you, I'll bring you on as one of several Office Production Assistants for a trial run. Whichever Office PA really knocks my socks off will be bumped up to Production Coordinator at least one month prior to shooting.
Any questions? Call me: 321.947.0458.
Best,
Andrew Kenneth Gay

UCF FILM Cleans Up @ Worldfest Houston
Big cheers go out to the five UCF FILM shorts which earned REMI awards at the recent Houston WorldFest. These included:
THE LONELY LIGHTS. THE COLOR OF LEMONS (Ben Piety)
Platinum REMI - College Level Student Production
THE WORLD, NAKED AS A JAYBIRD (Tiina Treasure)
Gold Remi - Independent, Experimental Film - Animated
AMERICAN DELUXE (Aaron Brownlee)
SEX MACHINE 2025 (Chris Shields)
Gold Remi - College Level Student Production
BASEBALL & GLORY (Brett Bonowicz)
Bronze Remi - Independent Short - Directing
WorldFest Houston is different from most other festivals. They give awards to about 15% of the entries and then select screening programs from those award winners. It's a little backwards from, but it does allow them to recognize quality even if they have too many films in any particular category.

Alumni, Fests, Dastolis & More! End of Semester Clean-Up
End of semester is just the start of festival acceptances for the most recent UCF FILM projects. Here's some of the latest news we've gotten.
IndieGRITS at the Donen Film Festival has accepted two UCF shorts from the 2006 FIVE STORIES DVD - THE LONELY LIGHTS, THE COLOR OF LEMONS (Ben Piety) and THE WORLD, NAKED AS A JAYBIRD (Tiina Treasure). The possibilities of awards for these films sounds good, so stay tuned.
The Dastolis took time off from their recent round of party activites, and wrote in with this missive : By being chosen as one of the 5 finalists in MTVu's "Best Filmmaker on Campus" competition (held at the Tribeca Film Festival), we are in the running for the "Best Filmmaker on Campus" MTV Movie Award. This is partially determined by online vote, and the voting has just gone up. It is is open to anyone, and everyone can vote as many times as they want (why that is and what sense that makes is beyond me). Here is the voting link:
http://www.bestfilmoncampus.com/contests/bfoc/default.aspx
Conveniently, we are listed at the top (that means you don't even have to scroll down).

Brett Bonowicz was doing some ego surfing recently and I found a film festival from a few weeks ago that screened Baseball and Glory. Says Brett, No notification. No Nothing. Anywho it was the 12th annual Flicker Film Festival.
Google is your friend. use it.
On the alumni front, Aaron King ('04) who just finished his grad studies at AFI wrote to tell us his excellent short REDEMPTION MADDIE was accepted for screening at the Declaration of Indepence Film Festival (London) and the Jackson Hole Film Festival. Aaron sez, Remarkably, both of these acceptances weren't the result of the normal submission process. We were invited by the festivals based on the recommendations of Jeremy Platt (a big fan of our film from Santa Barbara Film Festival) and AFI's own Chris Schwartz. So special thanks to both of them for being such great supporters of our film.
Just in case you hadn't heard, REDEMPTION MADDIE also received the Grand Jury Prize - Student Competition at AFI Dallas a couple of weeks ago. Cool!
