UCF FILM's Downtown Orlando Base Nearing Completion

UCF FILM's new facility in Downtown Orlando is rapidly approaching completion. Check out some mid-construction photos here. The facility being constructed occupies about 1/4 of the space of the old Expo Center. Also in the building is FIEA, UCF's Florida Entertainment Academy, which has just begun their forth class of gaming design grad students, CREAT and portions of the UCF Digital Media Program.

Look for Capstone film projects to be shooting on that stage this October.

UCF FILM Students & Alumni In The News

Ben Piety got a lovely write-up at Advocate.com about his screening at the Nevada City Film Festival. It's also a good review of a festival finding it's footing. A key blurb - "The most notable short of the festival, however, was the autobiographical The Lonely Lights The Color of Lemons, an impressive short by Benjamin M. Piety about adolescence." There's lots more, so check it out.

Also from the great American West, UCF FILM Grad Student Danny Daneau and his graduate feature film Monster In The Attic got written up in the Salt Lake Tribune. Read all about it here.

Screen Your Flick @ Enzian

Hey Filmslammers,
I just wanted to remind everyone that we are still accepting submissions to the last few Enzian FilmSlams of 2007....so send us your new projects, or get off your duffs and go make something worthy of our wonderful FilmSlam attendees/. Each month we have exeeded our previous-month's attendance numbers, to the point that last month we had 90 people for the event. For those of you that remember the days of the DMAC FilmSlam you will remember that most months we had VERY limited attendance and couldn't even hold 90 people in the screening room!

I think the level of support we have been getting is FANTASTIC!!! There have been lots of new participants from all over the state as well as tons of new faces in the audience. I feel that goes to show that FL filmmakers are really itching to show their projects to captive audiences, and I know I can speak for Brian Feldman and the Enzian staff by saying that WE are more than happy to provide the opportunity to them...and to you all.

So, get us your projects, help us spread the word, and come out and show support for other local filmmakers...

If anyone ever has any questions or concerns about the event please feel free to e-mail me, or Brian Feldman (Mail@brianfeldman.com). You can also find event details and the submission form at: http://www.enzian.org/films/filmslam.html

See you at Enzian...
Best,
John Theisen

Fest Updates

Last night, we found out the Ben Piety's THE LONELY LIGHTS, THE COLOR OF LEMONS has been accepted for screening at the excellent Woodstock Film Festival, which occurs in early October.

That got me thinking - I wonder if there are some festivals that have accepted our films without telling us? Hmmmm. Google is our friend, so away we went.

It only took a few seconds to find that AMERICAN DELUXE, directed by Aaron Brownlee, was scheduled for screening at the SoCal Independent Film Festival, set for Huntington Beach, Ca. in early September. News to us! We hope Aaron can attend.

I'll get to the other half of this festival list next week.

Welcome back to school.

The email has been burning up with good festival news for UCF films. Ben Piety's THE LONELY LIGHTS. THE COLOR OF LEMONS leads the way. The film was invited to 51st London Film Festival(running October 17 through November 1, 2007), won the won the Grand Prize at the Seoul International Youth Film Festival - Competition Section 2 (19 to 24 years old), and was accepted at the 27th Atlantic Film Festival, running from Thursday, September 13, through Saturday, September 22, 2007, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In addition, LONELY LIGHTS, along with AMERICAN DELUXE (Aaron Brownlee) and THE WORLD, NAKED AS A JAYBIRD (Tiina Treasure) were all selected for the 3rd annual Bluegrass Independent Film Festival in LaGrange, KY.

BASEBALL & GLORY, the D3 film of Brett Bonowicz, will be playing at the 1st annual Southern Winds Film Festival in Shawnee, OK.

Finally, Phil Chernyak musical fable, THE GOLDEN SAMOVAR, which played at Slamdance last year, is going to be featured on their annual DVD that they sell and distribute. Each year they only pick about a dozen films to be featured. How nice that Phil owns all the music clearances for his film!
