Ever Wonder What Idiots Look Like?

Yes, that's an extension cord and power strip floating on flip-flops in a pool. Darwin's Law in action, hmmm?

Central Florida Film Festival WANTS YOU!

The Central Florida Film Festival (August 28th thru 31st) wants film students in our area to know we are working to increase exposure, learning and understanding to the advantages of Independent Film. Film students are urged to send entries to our festival as soon as possible for early consideration with the proper application and fees. Because the festival is a competition with cash awards, there are no student waivers. However, a ten dollar discount is offered across the board at http://www.withoutabox.com/. The Central Florida Film Festival offers cash awards and a plaque in the category of best short, documentary, feature and best Florida Project.

Each Florida entry will be given special consideration and an evaluation or critique of their film if they are not selected for the festival program. It is our desire to work with Florida film programs and cultivate the talented students into filmmakers.

In addition, CENFLO has a program during the festival entitled "Work in Progress" where young filmmakers watch a film and during a Q & A with the films' executives make suggestions. This is a program we instituted last year and was well received by the filmmakers and the film watchers alike.

CENFLO features seminars, parties, an Academy award-like ceremony, and the screening of at least fifty films, over the Labor Day weekend (August 28-31, 2008). For more information or to receive an application go to http://www.withoutabox.com/ or http://www.centralfloridafilmfestival.com/.

We appreciate your support and if you have any additional questions or comments please don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Bob Cook

FLORIDA FILM FESTIVAL - YouTube Challenge

Who doesn't love a good challenge? Are you someone who is passionate about film and loves the Florida Film Festival? Are you someone who likes to be in on the action? Are you creative and ambitious?

You may just be the next producer of a YouTube video that wins you an exclusive Platinum Pass ($800 value) that gives you first-class access to the 10-day festival.

Ok, so anyone can be on YouTube, right? They serve up more than 100 million videos every day. The challenge is . . . can YOU create a YouTube video, promoting this year’s Florida Film Festival that people will actually watch?

If you think you’ve got what it takes . . . here’s how to play:

1.) Research the upcoming Florida Film Festival by visiting Enzian.org/FFF and Google search “Florida Film Festival” and see what’s been done in the past.

2.) Check out YouTube.com to watch the existing trailer for the upcoming Florida Film Festival, check out past trailers of the Florida Film Festival, and see what other festivals across the nation are doing.

3.) Fill in this sentence: “If I had the opportunity to promote this year’s Florida Film Festival, I would create the following video . . . “

4.) Create a short video that would be :15 seconds or less with an estimated launch date. Keep in mind, since this will be for public viewing, no curse words or explicit content is allowed. We’re all for edgy though, so take some risks and have some fun!

5.) When your video is near completion and you’re getting ready to post to YouTube, please send an e-mail to Shanon Larimer, Executive Director, slarimer@enzian.org, by February 15 and you will receive an email conformation letting you know of your entry’s acceptance into the contest. Please put “YouTube Challenge” in the e-mail subject line. Each submission should include the user name and title the video will be posted under so that we can track views.

6.) All submissions to YouTube must be posted by March 1. Remember, the festival begins on March 28th, so time is of the essence. The sooner you post your video, the more “views” you have the opportunity to garner.

7.) The producer of the video with the most viewings by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24 will be the recipient of a Platinum Pass (valued at $800) to the 10-day Festival which includes the following benefits:
  • Concierge Service: All-access seamless experience to the Festival
  • Priority Seating: First admittance to all Festival films
  • Party Invitations: VIP access to all filmmaker and industry events
  • Swag Bag: Exclusive limited edition, commemorative merchandise

AMA Seeks Video Crew

The American Marketing Association (AMA), Orlando chapter is seeking a responsible student or small group of students to film events hosted by the association for posting on the chapter website. Membership luncheons are held monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at the Citrus Club downtown. The AMA also hosts evening networking events at various locations in the Orlando area at least once per quarter, at most once per month.

Volunteer student(s) will commit to being present at all AMA events and will have the opportunity to interact with members of the organization for the purpose of broadening their network of contacts, gaining exposure to potential employers and internship opportunities. This opportunity may be offered to one student who is willing to commit to attending all of the events or to a small group of students who are willing to coordinate to guarantee attendance at all of the events.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Nicole Marsh at nmarsh@mail.ucf.edu or 407-823-4373.
