Film PSA For Credit And A Good Cause

I am working with the Salvation Army Domestic Violence Program of Brevard on a Primary Prevention project focusing on boys and males, trying to send the message that masculinity does not equal violence and that respect for women is the real message that boys should be taught and men should embrace. We would like to create a short Public Service Announcement involving local sports figures (UCF football players and other sports figures, someone from the Orlando Magic or other local sports teams, Kelly Slater, and various other community leaders/role models) promoting these messages. We hope to eventually have the spot air on local stations, at sports games, and anywhere it might gain visibility, esp. targeting young men. We have been in the process of contacting local figures, but have just began the process and need some assistance filming and producing the spot. Please email me for more information.

Thank You Very Much.

Sincerely,
Leandra Preston

The E.W Scripps Company Film Competition

Do you remember reading Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid? You know, the ones where you turn to page 48 if you want to jump out of the plane or turn to page 35 if you want to rush the cockpit? Well, Erik Luchauer and Kevin Antoine, creators of Rootclip.com, do. They drew upon their love of the popular user-guided storylines to come up with a new concept in film making and online media called Rootclip.

We create a short video clip or "Rootclip" to start the story. You
watch our video, then shoot your own rendition of what should happen in the next one minute. Once you've created your video, upload it to Rootclip.com during the submission period and compete for votes against the videos from other users. Gain the most "thumbs up" votes during the voting period and your video becomes the next chapter in the story.

Even though we think it's pretty cool we don't really expect you to care much about Rootclip out of the kindness of your heart. To that end, we thought we'd make it a little more interesting.

The Grand Prize Winner (that's you if you win the final chapter) gets
an all expense paid trip to the Traverse City Film Festival on August 1-3, 2008 where you'll meet with award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Moore (yes, that Michael Moore) and see the debut of the full Rootclip film.

Even if you don't win the grand prize, you can still clean up nicely.
Chapter winners (that's you if you get the most votes for your chapter submission) win a $500 VISA Gift Card.

CLIP NOTES

• Keep submissions close to 60 seconds.
• Maintain character consistency through wardrobe.
• End on a cliffhanger.

• Make it as funny or as serious as you want.

Sponsorship Opportunities Available for Film Schools. Check out www.rootclip.com for submission deadlines.

SHORT FLIX LIVES!!!

Long ago and far away, a few UCF FILM students put together SHORT FLIX, a series of half hour shows spotlighting output from UCF FILM. Those 18 or so episodes, created for the then new (and little seen) UCF TELEVISION, are now appearing both on line and and Brighthouse Cable.

The image above is shows the web home of the shows, which offers a few of the episodes in a rotating line-up that can be viewed youtube style in your browser. I also understand that SHORT FLIX can be found on the slightly bigger screen via VIDEO ON DEMAND (VOD) on Bright House Channel 300. Short Flix is featured there as part of UCF's rotating lineup, with a new episode confusing viewers on the 15th of each month.

Props to the good students who did all the hard work - Drew Lindo - co-founder and director of the first two years of episodes - and the Brothers Dastoli - wacky hosts for all three years and co-directors of the final year. And of course, the filmmakers who's shorts are featured.
