Terrence Malick Retrospective

Terrence Malick is one of the great enigmas of contemporary filmmaking, a shadowy figure whose towering reputation rests almost entirely on a pair of near-perfect features released a generation ago. A visual stylist beyond compare, Malick emerged during the golden era of 1970s American movie-making, bringing to the screen a dreamlike, ethereal beauty countered by elliptical, ironic storytelling; resonant and mythic, his films illuminated themes of love and death with rare mastery, their indelible images distinguished by economy and precision. - Mubi.com

Blog About Filmmaking in Hollywood

Reality TV Winner Launches Video Blog About Filmmaking in Hollywood

Los Angeles, CA – May 13, 2011 - Will Bigham, reality TV star and graduate of the FSU film program, is participating in the launch of a new platform for smart phones.   VMS, which stands for “Video Messaging Service”, is a free app available through the App Store and Android Market.  It allows consumers to share video through a simple application that works in the same way as a text message.

Will Bigham won “On the Lot”, a Dreamworks Television/Mark Burnett reality TV competition for film directors, in 2007.  Since then he has had a development deal at both Dreamworks and Paramount.  But opportunities to direct have been elusive.  “It’s an interesting business,” says Bigham.  “But if I want Hollywood to take me seriously as a director, then I’m just going to have to make it happen.”  Through his production company, Shamrock Motion Pictures, Bigham has written an independent feature film called “Stories”, for which he is currently seeking funding.

The VMS video blogs are a way for the general public to get a peak into Will’s world.  Once someone subscribes to the Will Bigham video blog, they can expect to receive a video a week sent directly to their phone.  The theme of these videos is, “Making an Independent Film in Hollywood” in which Bigham plans to show the trials and tribulations of getting his independent film made from start to finish.

You can download the free VMS app from either the App Store or Android Market.  Unfortunately these blogs are exclusive to the VMS platform, so if you don’t have a smart phone, you are out of the loop – for now.  “I hope to put these videos on my production company webpage eventually,” says Bigham.  But for now they remain a part of the rapidly increasing smart phone technology.

To learn more about Will Bigham and view the films he made as part of “On the Lot”, visit his company website at ShamrockMotionPictures.com.

BFA student Jon Perez will see two of his films screened at Festivals this summer!

Cherry Kino Super 8 Film Festival- Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom

You Can Never Hurt Me – dir. Jon Perez / USA / 2011 / 3 mins 30 secs
Like film, the canopies of trees are surfaces ravaged by light breaking through the cracks. Shot while continuously spinning on a single piece of Ektachrome, the film relieves the viewer from the representational aspect of photographing a forest. The trees persist in attracting our imaginations, creating a new vision for new eyes.

Support Less Lost on Kickstarter!

Less Lost, an independent feature film from Daytona Beach, Florida is in its final stages of pre-production.

Writing a script and assembling a worthy crew is only half the battle of the independent filmmaker. The other half is the financial struggle of funding the film to ensure it gets made. The crew from the independent Daytona Beach based film Less Lost knows this struggle all too well.

In order to gain the project more funding and recognition, the film’s producers have utilized a core group of social networking sites. A donation page was established through Kickstarter.com – a fundraising site for creative projects – and has been promoted it through the film’s Facebook and Twitter pages over the last 50 days. Less Lost’s fundraising goal is to raise $2,500, all of which would go directly into the film’s production budget.

The Less Lost Kickstarter page has found $1,665 pledged thus far with little over 65 hours left. If the entire goal of $2,500 is not met, none of the pledged money will be sent to the film.
Less Lost is a film about is the story of a young man in his late 20’s who was critically injured while serving in the U.S. Special Forces, and is medically retired. Although his physical injuries are healing with time, the physiological effects associated with combat related post-traumatic stress only worsen. When his condition becomes a threat to his wife and child, he is faced with an ultimatum; get better or lose them.

To find out more information or to make a donation to Less Lost, please visit the film’s website lesslostmovie.com.

They'll get to spend a year embedded with major news media working on the problem with brilliant people. Below are the specifics.
