Production Meet & Greet - Friday, January 27, 2012 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Production Meet & Greet

Friday, January 27, 2012 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Campus Location: Communications, Room 181A (Main campus Sound stage)

Each semester UCF Film hosts a Production Meet & Greet to help student filmmakers find crew members for their upcoming productions. It's like a job fair for UCF student film projects. This event also serves as a great opportunity for students to meet new friends and similarly minded individuals to collaborate with on future creative projects.

STUDENTS WHO WANT TO VOLUNTEER AS CREW: Any and all students are eligible to volunteer as crew members. Come on down and see what the details are for each project and find a shoot that works for you. These projects will need all kinds of help, so don't be afraid to try on different hats and take on new challenges. This is a great way to gain some experience!

STUDENT FILM PRODUCTIONS LOOKING TO RECRUIT: If you wish to participate and recruit crew members (hand out flyers about your film needs, have a sign-up sheet to collect info on interested students, display a poster, etc.) please email Lisa Cook [Lisa.Cook@ucf.edu] with the information requested in the Meet and Greet Project Information form (download link below). There will be folding tables set up for you to use as a "booth."  We will hold a spot for you if you send Lisa the form.

It is strongly recommend that you create a handout - you can use the Meet & Greet Information form as an example if you want - so that each potential volunteer crew member has something to take away with all the important contact information and details about your project. You should also have a way to keep a record of the names and contact info of any students who want to work on your shoot. You can use the Crew Contact Information form to do this or make your own (download link below).

Any UCF Film Department undergraduate and graduate student film production is welcomed to pitch their project at the Meet & Greet (B.A., B.F.A., & M.F.A.)

We'll see you all Friday, January 27 4-6pm on the main campus sound stage Comm 181a!

Abel Ferrara Executive Produces UCF Alumni Film, 3 by 3, 1 by 1

BFA alumni Christopher Carullo and Brian Deutzman are teaming up with indie legend Abel Ferrara (King of New York, Bad Lieutenant, 4:44: Last Day on Earth) to release 3 by 3, 1 by 1, a multi-screen short that began as a Directing II project. The film will take advantage of several exhibition platforms -- traditional projection, streaming video, and mobile applications -- to deliver its ambitious narrative, which explores the complexities of contemporary youth culture. The film is scheduled for a mid-February Web release with a series of screenings/installations to follow. Ferrara, who works in collaboration with online distribution platform Film Annex, encourages young filmmakers to follow a similar model when seeking sources of exposure and revenue for their work.

Student PIRGs Activism Internships

Interns across the country have organized events on their campuses from canned food drives to
support local food banks to collecting hundreds of petitions to get National
Geographic to clean up its paper mill to participating in a health care

If you want to make a difference and learn valuable skills, join our team

Writer/Director Laurel Nakadate This Friday

We are very fortunate to have Writer/Director Laurel Nakadate join us on Friday to screen her newest film, The Wolfe Knife, for the UCF community. Please join us for the screening in COMM 145 on Friday evening at 7:30pm, to be followed by Q&A with Laurel.

Laurel Nakadate is a photographer, video artist and filmmaker. She was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Ames, Iowa and now lives in New York City. She received a B.F.A. from Tufts University and The School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and an M.F.A. in photography from Yale University. In 2009, her first feature film, STAY THE SAME NEVER CHANGE, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to be featured in New Directors/ New Films at The Museum of Modern Art and Lincoln Center. Her second feature, THE WOLF KNIFE, premiered at the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival and was nominated for a 2010 Gotham award and a 2011 Independent Spirit Award. Ken Johnson of the New York Times calls her, “Smart and scarily adventurous”. Jerry Saltz of New York Magazine says, Nakadate is “A damaged unit and a loose cannon; she's clever, attention-grabbing, and slightly mad: a very promising combination.” Jeffrey Kastner, of ArtForum Magazine writes, “Nakadate knows she's got us watching now - waiting to see what might happen, wondering which demon of hers, and ours, she'll wrestle with next.” A ten-year survey of Nakadate’s work opened at MoMA/P.S.1 in January of 2011.
More information about Laurel and her work may be viewed here: http://www.thewolfknife.com/

Elementary School Seeks Videographer for Pay

From Ms. Fink at Deerwood Elementary:

Deerwood Elementary, is putting on a school wide production on January 26, 2012.
We are in the need of a person to video tape and create a finished copy of the event.
Our plan would be to have a student skilled in video technology record and edit the program in whatever way necessary to create a professional product. We hope to sell copies of the show as a fundraiser for the school. Most of the editing needed will be during transitions when one grade level gets up to perform as another is exiting, along with some title slides.

We can pay $100. Student must own their own camera and have access to their own editing program.
